This issue of Astonishing was rather significant as it hit the stands the same month of the Spider-Man movie’s United Kingdom release. Ah, this one ain’t half nostalgic for me I can tell you that. But putting aside my lost youth, this issue was also significant as it reprinted the final issues of Tom DeFalco’s second ASM run from the 1990s (specifically ASM #438-439) along with Peter Parker: Spider-Man #95. With those three issues the era which began after the Clone Saga in many ways ended as the next batch of stories reprinted were all written by John Byrne and Howard Mackie, beginning the Gathering of Five and Final Chapter arcs which set up their godforsaken attempt at a Spider-Man Reboot. In a way for me as a kid this issue was truly the end of MY era of Spider-Man, and in fairness it was a high note, the Bagley cover in particular giving me a nice send off.

I’ve loved Spider-Man, Spider-Girl and the Clone Saga since I were but a wee lad living in the United Kingdom. Glad to be here!
